While hard goods such as electronics, DVDs or books are bought based on reviews, product specifications or ratings, soft goods are purchased based on consumer’s taste, style or whether it matches to a current trend.
picalike has developed technology that gives a visual understanding what terms like “brown high heels” or “bay-colored stilettos” mean and created algorithms to “read“ images. This allows picalike to suggest similar items – “pic”[tures] that are “alike”. Independent from tags or verbal descriptions, the pictures are displayed according to their similarity.
This offers vast opportunities to e-commerce shops. To better serve their customers they can improve the product search, recommendation systems and filter mechanisms, taking the personal taste of customers into account.
We continue to innovate on picalike search our core search engine. We have developed picalike color search and picalike shape search, were we offer the opportunity to focus on one of these criteria. Again picalike uses pictures as the (visual) reference, so customers can for instance easily pic a certain color from the entire spectrum. In addition we are about to launch the picalike recommendor and many more exciting products. Stay tuned.
About picalike
Unlike most other image search engines (including Google image search), picalike indexes images based on more than metadata and tags. Using algorithms that visually recognize pictures, picalike can search through a library of products and find ones similar to the look of any selected product. Users can shop for shoes, bags, watches, clothes and much more without even typing in search terms.
For image search queries picalike matches the chosen product with similar or identical objects by comparing each object’s “visual character”. These “visual characters” are derived from analyzing a vast number of variables such as color, shape, texture etc.
Users can click on products displayed on any shop that uses the easy to integrate picalike-technology to find similar products.
In the future, picalike will allow users to upload images as search queries expanding the number of possible searches to any product image online.
